    This site has some great information regarding ADA, IDEA and a school district’s responibility towards a child with special needs.  All information is written in parent-friendly terms; not abstract legal terms.

    5. Picture Exchange Communication System (PECs)

    This approach to teaching spotaneous communication for children with ASD has been very successful.  Basically, PECs teaches the child to use pictures to make requests as well as comments.  This approach also helps promote verbal output for some children.
